Also, “sway control” hitches do not eliminate sway. You can always have sway when there’s only one pivot point . . . The ball. My stress level with the Equalizer hitch was off the charts and I also hated the noise it made because most all sway control hitches work off of friction which causes the noise. I dug deep financially and bought a Pro Pride hitch and never looked back since. ZERO sway and I mean ZERO. It tracks straight, it’s super quiet, I can drive with one finger on the wheel if I want, I have a 87 degree turn radius and I can actually put my tailgate down completely due to the added distance the hitch provides. Best hitch on the market . . . .PERIOD, FULL STOP. No I’m not an ambassador for them, just a regular customer. My stress level went from off the charts with previous hitches to relaxed with Pro Pride. Not looking back.

When measuring your trailer height, always use the frame and not the exterior.

We have crossed into Maine at Calais and Forest City and it was pretty easy. We crossed back into Canada at Houlton without issue twice. We are crossing at Houlton next week with our truck camper on our way to Arizona for the first time. Looks like you went through isle number 1 as apposed to the truck isle on the far right? been wondering where to pass through with an 11' truck camper.

Wow. What a quiet border crossing. We have 4 of them between the lower mainland of BC and Whatcom County in Washington State. When I did a day trip to the USA in early December 2023, I was pleased to only have 6 vehicles ahead of me in the line to the USA. And 8 in front of me at the Sumas Crossing back into Canada. It would sure be nice if we had some here in greater Vancouver that were so quiet.

I noticed that the subject about money wasn't brought up going into the US or on the return trip back into Canada.

This ONLY applies to Ancient "pig type " trailers not the more modern "dog trailers". It astounds me that van and trailer manufacturers add "features" and do not unload the ball on the vehicle which is a majour brake and instability issue, and make the trailers "weight distribution sensitive". About time the industry caught up with some modern tech to negate the down fall of ALL "pig type" trailers.

Bonus tips from my experience: Remove hats and sunglasses so your faces are clearly visible. Roll down both the front and back windows of your vehicle when you approach so they have clear visibility into the front and back seats. Keep the curtains and blinds of the trailer open so they can see inside. Keep your pet food in the original container, the same for any pills or medications. Answer every question truthfully but never volunteer any information beyond what they are asking; if they want more detail they will ask. As you said, be polite, have the documents ready, and treat them with respect.

I flew to Poland last year. The EU is less strict about outsiders than here in the US. They didn’t even ask if I had anything to declare which I didn’t. When I returned back to the US, all they asked if I had food or tobacco.

Did not know about that food. I just never bring any food other than snack food like chips and pop. I'd rather be safe than sorry from bringing the wrong thing. I pick up more fresh food after I get across the border.

The dealer ask if your going to tow but when it comes to tire they go cheap so when you replace tires alway upgrade to heavy duty tires more piles is better you can put 2500 tires on 1500 ! I do but not to air air pressure that a 2500 uses maybe ten pounds more than 1500 air pressure less in front tire than back when towing and normal pressure when empty, for best ride ! Strong tires are better when towing !

i should have had a harrowing experience but was to green to realize it. after buying my Jayco from Sparks, NV, i was towing for first time back to Cali and i came back on HWY 80....nuff said

Thanks, good video. Getting ready to tow my cargo trailer conversion I've been working on. A little nervous. I towed it 500km home from the dealership, that went well, but that was empty. Last year I towed a Jayco RV of comparable size and weight, fully loaded with gear, to the Yukon and that went OK although the truck was riding a little low in the back. This year I had an air bag suspension lift installed to level it out. I find it hard to gauge whether my trailer brakes are adjusted appropriately or not. Hauling the cargo trailer empty, I thought everything was good until I pulled into a gas station and the trailer tires locked up on me. I guess it just takes practice. As for the craziest iffy situation I've been in Towing, last year Towing the Jayco we were going up a hill around a blind corner and there was a very large dead black bear in the middle of the opposing lane, and coming around the corner towards it was a semi. I had about 2 seconds to assess the situation and decide what to do, I just kept steady in my lane and applied mild brakes and prayed. I could not move over much due to a very steep soft shoulder, in the far morth of bc the highway is very narrow. The semi, unable to move out of the way without hitting me, chose to run over the dead bear right beside us. It did not look like he had enough clearance to safely do so, but he did and he stayed on the road. The whole ordeal was over faster than it began but had it been a smaller vehicle unable to plow through that bear, it could have been bad.

Do they have restrictions if you're trying to move to Canada from the United States?

Or people can drive right and not jerk the wheel around and stop trying to counter steer their trailer sway. I don't use any of this and I tow trailers around everywhere and I have 15 different trailers and a lawn and landscaping company. Alot of sway is human error.

Adjustments have been made for tbc but at times (not always) truck will idle extremely high when trying to break / slow down . Any suggestions or I still haven’t found my happy tbc adjustment

really nice floor plan but these new Montana's are a joke compared to my 2011 High Country 323RL, this and the 294RL are 2 feet shorter than mine, dry weight is about 2K lbs more and the pin weight damn near requires a 3500 chassis. 3 years into this design and the front glass is still patent pending. the taller windows result in lost interior storage and mine has the nice REAL coat closet ..... not to mention the price .... ignorant !!!

If the trailer is 26ft or longer ,I have 30 ft trailer I put two sway contol brackets plus air bags it had no issues it drives like a fifth wheel

I just bought a 31 foot travel trailer and have a 2020 dodge ram 1500 8 cylinder engine. It came with a built-in trailer brake. Thank you for letting me know how the plus and minus work and the push thing I was thinking that if you hit the plus and minus it moved the push toggles lol. I’ll have to go through my settings on the dash and see what I am at. If I push the side bar while the truck is moving is that a good way to make sure my trailer is breaking? But I think I’ll start at five. I also have a Jake brake feature.
